6 set off from HQ, eager to embark on what promised to be an exhilarating ride. However, shortly into our journey, Mick faced an unexpected family emergency that compelled him to turn back after just a few miles. This incident turned out to be a violation of Rule 11, which emphasizes the importance of group cohesion and communication during our rides. With Mick's departure, the dynamics of the group shifted slightly, but we quickly adapted. Just after losing Mick, we were fortunate to pick up Ad, restoring our numbers to a balanced count once again. With renewed energy, we set our sights on the Village Cafe in Albrighton, a popular destination known for its welcoming atmosphere and delicious refreshments.Sue Jones took the lead, her determination palpable as she cycled ahead, motivated to reclaim her position in the competitive Sue Jones’s 65-69 age group Strava segments. The initial part of our journey was smooth and enjoyable, with the camaraderie of the group making the miles fly by. However, the tranquility was disrupted as we passed through Codsall, where things took an unexpected turn. The group got slightly disrupted as we briefly seperated. As we regrouped, we noticed the weather had taken a turn for the worse, contrary to the forecast we had relied upon before setting out. With a light drizzle beginning to fall, we made the decision to head back to HQ instead of continuing on to the Village Cafe. As we rode, it became apparent that Sue J had also parted from the group, which raised alarms once again. Thankfully, Sue realized something was amiss and stopped to reassess her situation. Chris Probyn, ever vigilant, quickly came to her aid, ensuring she was safely back with the group.Chris Probyn was not at fault this time; in fact, the mishap was due to Sue’s Garmin being left behind in her car, an oversight that could happen to any of us. With both Sue and I needing to cut our ride short to attend to other commitments, we bid farewell to the group, who were ready to make their way back to HQ. The rest of the riders returned safely, reflecting on a day filled with unexpected challenges and the resilience of our cycling community. Codgers and Dodgers lead busy lives, but today’s ride was a reminder of the joy and unpredictability that comes with our shared passion for cycling.
