Weekly club roundup.

Last week proved to be an exhilarating time for cycling enthusiasts, as many individuals took to their bikes for various rides spread throughout the week. A heartfelt congratulations to each and every one of you for your participation and dedication to cycling!

On Tuesday evening, I had the distinct pleasure of riding alongside some of the club’s most esteemed members, including the legendary Robert Steele, whose contributions to the cycling community are well-known and respected. We were also joined by the formidable Stuart Harrison, whose prowess on the bike is matched only by his competitive spirit. Alongside us was Dave, affectionately known as the Sherpa, Wornell. Adding a unique touch to our group was the resident holy man, Rev. David Candlin, whose presence always brings a sense of calm and perspective to our rides. Together, we enjoyed a delightful spin around the scenic Don 30 route, taking in the beautiful surroundings and engaging in lively conversation.

The following day, Wednesday, marked a significant milestone for our cycling community as we witnessed a record number of participants on the Codgers and Dodgers ride, with a remarkable turnout of nine riders! This growing group is a testament to the increasing interest in cycling among our members, and I commend them for their enthusiasm and commitment to the sport.

As the week progressed, the mountain biking (MTB) posse made a bold attempt to take over the cycling scene, with an impressive 14 riders joining for a hot and sunny evening ride. Their presence has certainly stirred up some excitement within the club, prompting questions about whether the new club leaders will allow for more road rides in the future. The aforementioned MTB riders also joined Pete Parkes' Thursday evening Easy Rider event, further solidifying their influence and camaraderie within the club.

Friday evening was particularly special as we gathered for the annual Solstice Shuffle, which took place in lovely weather that made our ride even more enjoyable. After the ride, many members returned to our headquarters for some late-night drinks, sharing stories and laughter, which truly encapsulated the spirit of our cycling community.

Saturday brought with it a sweltering heat, yet two groups bravely ventured out to cycle to a local farm for some well-deserved ice cream. The joy of riding in such heat, combined with the refreshing treat, made for a memorable outing that showcased the resilience and camaraderie of our members.

On Sunday, the wind picked up, creating challenging conditions for those who decided to ride. All rides were unofficial, Mick Newport took on the classic route, demonstrating determination and grit—well done mate! Additionally, a group of six riders set out for an adventure to Bridgnorth, further exemplifying the spirit of exploration that cycling fosters.

In an exciting turn of events, former rider Russell Cornfield has rediscovered his love for cycling and has found his bike again, marking a welcome return to our community.

As we celebrate the achievements of our members, I would like to recognize the following individuals for their outstanding performances: Bronze medalist Simon Bates, Silver medalist Chris Hinton, and our Gold medalist and Man of the Moment, the Wanderer himself, Steve Phillips.

Although I missed out on Bobster’s Dirty Dozen ride, I was pleased to achieve my second-highest mileage of the year, landing me in 14th place overall. Congratulations to everyone for their hard work and dedication! Your commitment to cycling not only enhances your personal fitness but also strengthens our community as a whole. Keep up the fantastic work!
