Our podium has a slightly different look this week. Stuart is back on top with over 230 miles, but 2nd and 3rd places are occupied by Don and Tracy who have done lots of trainer miles. Simon B in 4th pips Steve P who takes 5th place with his 147 miles. Liv is down in 15th place, so I guess this is her recovery week.
Monday: Heidi and Tracy went out for a 28-mile social ride. Steve W and Judy did a similar distance riding to Penkridge. Olivia got frozen at the track, and Chris H was out for almost 4 hours and bagged 52 miles.
Tuesday: Dawn and Craig zwifted together and lots of other people were also on their trainers. Chris H was back on the road for another 33 miles.
Wednesday: Birthday boy Craig joined the codgers (Chris P, Mick, Bobster (me), Ade and Pete) for a 36-mile ride to Albrighton. When Proby argues that he is a dodger not a codger, I have to remind him that he is only a couple years shy of 60 … hardly a spring chicken. Icy winds made the ride feel wickedly cold. Thankfully we all got round without incident. Craig was at it again later joining Vanessa and 5 others for the PSCC evening MTB ride.
Thursday: Mostly zwifting but Steve W and Judy were out again for another 40 miles.
Friday: Bobster, Sallyann and Chris P rode over to Lichfield on the McClean Way. They were on MTB and I was on my skinny CX tyres, so I jumped off in the centre of Brownhills, hit the tarmac, and met them again near Fosseway. By this time, Woz had joined. I stayed on the roads and we met up again at the Siding Café, Chasewater. By this stage, Woz had abandoned due to a mechanical. After refreshments, Sallyann took us through the trees and onto the Mineral Trail back to Brownhills where we then finished our ride on the canal and the Timberland Trail. Cold but enjoyable.
Chris H, Jamie, Steve W and Judy all got out on MTB rides, Liv had her first ever canal ride, and a few other members got on their trainers.
Saturday: 6 MTBers got out for a morning ride over the chase. By all accounts, it was somewhat wet but not too bad under trees. Chris P ended up doing the Saturday Social solo after Simon realized that he had forgotten his gloves. Brave, bonkers or both? You decide. Other highlights were Tracy and Simon P both doing 50-mile trainer rides and Don doing 60 miles. This ride from Don was also the week’s longest distance. I am in awe of people who do 2-hour and 3-hour rides on their trainer.
Sunday: Mick and Liam braved the elements to do the Classic ride to Bake 180, John S is back in the UK and did 35 miles out to Coton in the elms. There were a few trainer rides between 18 and 32 miles in length, but Don deserves a mention for completing his 40.7 miles in just over 2 hours.
The pendulum is swinging more towards trainer rides, but it is great to still see so many members knocking out the miles whether it is road, gravel, MTB or trainer.
