Pedal Power and Pints A Light-hearted Weekly Roundup from the PSCC Club

Good evening, clubmates! It’s my turn for this week’s roundup, continuing our rotation between Stephen and myself. With so much happening this week, I’m excited to share some highlights, although I may unintentionally leave out a detail or two.

A Mammoth Mileage Week

What an incredible week for our cycling club! This week, a staggering 150 miles was the minimum needed to rank among the top dozen cyclists. It’s truly impressive to see our seasoned riders take the lead. Amazingly, 8 out of the top 12 cyclists are aged 58 or older. It’s a testament to the determination of our "old guys" as they tackle challenging hills as if they were gentle inclines.

Kudos to our outstanding riders—Russell, Chris, Steve, Jack, and Dave—who exceeded 200 miles this week! Achieving this level of mileage is no small task and deserves a big round of applause.

Donald continues to shine, logging picturesque miles in France. His stunning photos make us all envious of long rides through vineyards rather than dodging potholes around home. Stuart also maintains his high mileage, demonstrating that love for cycling truly knows no age limits.

A special shoutout goes to Damian, who has seamlessly integrated into T1 company. I can attest that he really pushed me last Friday; I can still feel the challenge in my legs!

Speed Demons Take Over Tuesday

Tuesday's T1 ride was a thrill, with Simon and Paul averaging over 20.0 mph. Stuart shadowed them at 19.7 mph. It’s intense at the front, but the adrenaline rush makes it worthwhile. Well done to everyone for pushing their limits. Sometimes, I think I’m just trying to keep up with the coffee consumption afterward!

From Adrian’s write-up, it sounds like Thursday night's Easyrider outing was a blast. I hear laughter often outpaced pedaling, but hey—it’s all about camaraderie, especially when cake is on the table!

Big congratulations to Russ for hitting his century! Completing 100 miles in a week is worth celebrating, and well done to Adrian for his first half-century ride; you’re on your way to more!

Ladies in the Limelight

We must recognize our female riders too! Tracy, you shone this week with your 54-mile ride in France. Hats off to you for being the leading lady this week with nearly 142 miles. Your hard work inspires us all and proves that strength knows no gender.

On a personal note, I clocked a solid week of cycling, mainly on the road. Thanks to a ride with a different cycling group, I discovered a new cycle path route to Sutton Park via Brookvale Park. I can’t wait to try it out—hopefully with fewer detours and potholes!

No MTB Mention?

I apologize for not having news from the mountain biking (MTB) crew this week. Did you have your Wednesday ride? If so, please send in your stories—even if it didn’t involve any close encounters with trees or cliffs.

The codgers and dodgers were out as usual; six of us rode to Alrewas, where we were pleased to meet Sallyann. Kudos to her for completing 43 miles on Wednesday! For those who might think she was slacking by only visiting one cafe, remember she still finished the week with 140 miles—just shy of Judy Pitt’s 141 miles.

Wishing Jamie a Speedy Recovery

Let’s send our best wishes to Jamie, who unfortunately appears to have broken his foot. It’s disheartening, especially since he has been making excellent progress lately. We’re all rooting for you, Jamie—hope for a quick recovery so you can get back to pedaling with all your energy!

To cap things off, our members have logged over 5,500 miles in the PSCC Strava club this week—a fantastic collective effort!

Final Thoughts

That's it for this week’s roundup! If I missed any highlights or amusing stories from your rides, I’d love to hear them—we can always use a good laugh. Remember, whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting, every ride is a step toward your next adventure. Just be sure to stay hydrated!

And perhaps next week, we can introduce a "best pun" contest to add some extra fun to our updates! Until then, keep pedaling strong, and don’t forget to save room for a pint afterward—it's a celebration of the miles we've conquered and the friendships we've built along the way!
