From Warren Parry.

Attention all club members:

  • Our chairman has decided to step down from his position.

  • We extend our gratitude to him for his dedication over the past few years.

    • Leading a cycle club is a challenging task.

  • Martin, our vice chairman, will take on the duties of Chairman.

  • According to our constitution, a new chair must be elected by members at either an EGM or the next AGM.

  • Martin, as the acting chairman, will need the full support of all members during this transition.

Club Direction and Fundamentals

  • We need to decide on the future direction of the club and whether any changes are necessary.

  • Key principles established at the club's founding include:

    • Being a social cycling club focused on getting people out on their bikes.

    • Ensuring no one is left behind on rides.

    • All rides depart at 9 a.m. and return by 2 p.m. on Sundays.

    • Emphasizing the social aspect of cycling.

    • Predominantly being a road cycling club.

Changes Since 2019

  • We now have rides on Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and occasionally Friday.

  • An active off-road division is growing rapidly.

  • Riders have progressed from leisurely paces to comfortably cycling at higher speeds:

    • Some now ride at 16 MPH without difficulty.

    • Others prefer to push themselves to 17+ MPH.

    • There are still those who enjoy a more relaxed pace to appreciate the scenery.

Revisiting Our Fundamentals

  • We need to assess if our fundamentals require revision.

  • It's crucial to clarify how we present ourselves to attract new members.

Recruitment of a New Vice Chairperson

  • The club is looking to recruit a new vice chairperson to support Martin.

  • This individual may have insights on the club's future direction, which is vital for our growth.

  • The vice chair can be elected by the committee without an AGM:

    • Any interested members can put their names forward to Martin or Karen (secretary).

    • Discuss your vision for the club with Martin to ensure compatibility.

    • A majority of committee members is required for the election, with a minimum of three needed to vote.

    • The meeting for the election must be open to all committee members wishing to attend.

I hope someone will step forward to assist Martin in revitalizing the club. Your involvement is crucial; without it, the club risks becoming inactive like SOCC did after our split.

Best regards,Warren, Honorary Club President
