Don't let a "Train Crash" become a "Titanic"

Don't let a "Train Crash" become a "Titanic"—Let’s get back in the saddle!

It is no secret that 2025 was a tough one for me personally. Between a major job change and some health turmoil, my cycling took a bit of a hit. I finished the year with about 2,600 miles—a far cry from the 6,000+ miles I was doing six years ago—and I’ve definitely ended the year a bit older and a bit heavier!

I know many of you are feeling the same way right now. We ate too much, we lounged around a bit too much, and it’s become very comfortable sitting on our derrières doing nothing. But here is the thing: we shouldn't feel guilty about enjoying Christmas and New Year. We’ve battled through another 365 days and added another candle to the cake. We’ve earned the break.

However, let’s not give up on our health just because we had a "train crash" for two weeks. Giving up now would be like surviving that train crash and saying, "To hell with it, I might as well book a seat on the Titanic next." That’s not the way to think. Let’s get positive.

Whether you’re on a mountain bike or a road bike, getting out there makes you feel infinitely better, both mentally and physically. Over the last couple of years, I’ve watched new members join our club and excel—not just as cyclists, but as vital parts of our community. I’ve seen people transform their bodies from "wrecks" into efficient cycling machines. Some thrive on the social side; others just enjoy being part of the conversation.

My point is this: Don’t slip into lethargy. Don't fall into the "I'll start tomorrow" mindset, because tomorrow never comes. Fight through the grey skies, the cold, and the rain. Wrap up, beat the chill, get the MTB out, and smash some mud.

I want to see you all out there over the next few weeks. Set yourself small, achievable targets: 30 miles in January, four rides in February, a mid-week evening ride in March... maybe a 300-miler in April (just kidding!).

Whatever your goal is, just get on the bike. Set your targets, hit them, and let’s make 2026 the year we get back on track together.

Let me know your thoughts, P.M me or Lez or anyone you feel you can talk to if you have

concernes.
