Cycling through 17 miles of gravel and mud offers me a unique challenge and a rewarding experience as an avid rider. Recently, a few enthusiastic PSCC cyclists set off from headquarters along the scenic McClean Way where I joined the ride. All eager to tackle the rugged terrain that lay ahead, we set sail. This particular route is known for its diverse landscape, which includes not only stretches of challenging gravel but also areas where the mud can become quite thick and slippery, testing the skills and determination of even the most seasoned riders. The journey began with excitement and anticipation as we gathered our gear, checked our bikes, and shared a few lighthearted jokes to ease any pre-ride nerves. Bob was rocking the gravel bike look in style. Along the way, the group made a planned stop to pick me up as I had been eagerly waiting at a designated meeting point. Navigating the tricky sections of the trail proved to be both exhilarating and demanding. The larger gravel portions required careful maneuvering and strategic bike handling, as I had to adjust my speed and balance to avoid slipping or losing control. Bob had taken to the road at this point to avoid the rocky gravel sections which were not suitable for a gravel bike. The mud, while an obstacle, also brought a sense of adventure; it was a reminder of the raw beauty of nature and the unpredictability of the ride. Each of us faced our own set of challenges, but together, we encouraged one another to push through the tough spots, celebrating small victories as we conquered each difficult section. After several miles of hard work and determination, my bike threw out the white flag of surrender. The cassette completely disintegrated.

This was a terminal problem and left me with a 2 mile walk home. The group finally reached a local café where Bob rejoined them. This well-earned break was not just a chance to refuel with coffee and pastries; it was also an opportunity to reflect on our journey thus far. Laughter and stories filled the air as we recounted our favorite moments of the ride, like when warrens bike committed suicide. Ultimately, this ride combined physical endurance, teamwork, and a profound love for the outdoors, creating a memorable adventure that was truly worth sharing. Each of us left with not only a sense of accomplishment but also a deeper appreciation for the beauty of the world around us and the understanding of how a broken bike doesnt have to ruin your day.. As the group packed up to head back, they were already discussing plans for our next ride, eager to explore new trails and create even more unforgettable memories together.
